VirtualBox network adapter fails to install

Gabriel

The host-only adapter fails to install in Windows 8.1 x64 with VirtualBox-4.3.20-96997.

  1. When installing VirtualBox, "Host Only" shows up as a failed device in Device Manager.

enter image description here

  1. Therefore, "Host Only" is not visible in the Network Connections window.

  2. Reinstalling the device via VirtualBox will return:

Failed to create host network interface.

E_FAIL(0x80004005)。

  1. Reinstalling VirtualBox will copy the device as a failed device in Device Manager:

  1. Removing the driver or doing a fresh install will not change the results above.

This appears to be a known bug: Ticket #12182: Failed to create host network interface .

The only stated workaround is provided by David.Requena:

Actually, going back to 4.2.24 and creating some h/o adapters can use it after upgrading to any 4.3.x version. The adapter can be removed in 4.3.x, but it cannot be modified. It cannot be recreated under any circumstances.

Try going back to version 4.2.24 to create the adapter, or wait for the developer to fix the bug.

Before installing version 4.2.24, be sure to completely uninstall the current VB version and make sure to remove all its devices.
