Is it possible to use different graphics chips in host and VM?

I'm looking for a way to configure a dual Windows/Linux system (one as the host, the other as a VM), where Linux uses my Intel HD chip and Windows uses my GTX 970. Virtual machine operating system.

is it possible? If yes, what virtual machine software is best to use to handle it?

Ideally, I'd like Linux to be a VM OS if possible.

VMware Workstation* can pass PCI-e devices. This requires an AMD-Vi or Intel VT-d capable CPU, and you can't use that card on the host where the VM is running.

Typically used to pass RAID cards, 10Gbit NICs, etc. directly to the VM, but can also be used for graphics cards. Note that this assumes a dedicated graphics card separate monitor on the card.

If you're trying this on a laptop that has "smart switching" between the IGP and dedicated GPU, then this can be a challenge. But running the host on one card and the virtual machine on the other should work fine.

*Although I have no experience, there may be other virtualization software.

Is it possible to create a VM that survives outage of host?

Use Navigation Components to Navigate Between Different Graphics

Is it possible to use VMX CPU instructions in a VM?

John Smith Is it possible for a process inside a VM guest to use VMX (AMD-V, VT-x) CPU instructions, which are then processed by an external VMM instead of being processed directly on the CPU? Edit: Assume that the external VM uses VMX itself to manage its vir
