Access virtualbox guest from LAN

Tom Kaho

All the tutorials and guides I've seen about accessing remote desktops in virtualbox claim it's very easy, but I still get errors. Every time I try to access a virtualbox client running Arch Linux, I get standard error:

Remote Desktop cannot connect to the remote computer for one of the following reasons: 1) Remote access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is down 3) The remote computer is not available on the network

So I started troubleshooting this. First, I checked that remote access is enabledenter image description here

Is it enabled?

The second question is whether amchine is one: it is, I've even run X (I'm in the early stages of an Arch Linux install), so that's not the reason.

Third, I checked if the computer is reachable through the network I pinged the client (the network adapter is in bridged mode), and since I got the response, I presume that the computer is working and is in the same workgroup as the rest of the computers . my lan machine.

To recap: -Virtualbox settings say Remote Display is enabled -Machine is on -Machine can be accessed from the network

But I still can't log in. I've tried disabling the firewall on both the computer I'm connecting to and the computer hosting virtualbox, to no avail.

So any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

When using the Remote Display feature, you must connect to the host on port 5000 , not the guest .

So try connecting to the host on port 5000.

So the guest's network settings (bridged or not) don't matter.
