Trying to set up a VPN server on my home computer to connect from the campus network

shrill

I went through a constant search for about 2-3 days and tried many different things, but I'm afraid I don't know enough about VPNs to do this without asking for help. Searching for advice on superuser didn't help me either.

So my question is this: my college campus has almost all ports blocked, I can still access the internet, use programs like Teamviewer, but other programs like Steam or Origin are blocked. I'm looking for a way to connect to a VPN server installed on my home computer (running Windows 7) from my college campus so that all campus firewalls know that I'm connecting to my home's IP address and that I use the Internet All data is routed through the VPN. I know Windows has a built-in PPTP service, but all my attempts to set this up have failed. Not sure what other information is needed. Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium, and my home's cable router (technically I think it's a wireless gateway) is an Arris Touchstone Phone Wireless Gateway TG862G.

Edit: Thought I'd share the error message I'm getting when I try to connect to the VPN from my laptop. http://gyazo.com/e4d943eaf0b42f4cd2d52fe614a17d71

EDIT2: Tried the "diagnose" button pictured above, met me : http://gyazo.com/a3031b5a06d84ffe2d9e00a5aebd12e0 seems to be telling me that the port on the host is blocked, but I can verify that I have actually Forwarded port 1723 to my host's local address. Not sure why it's not responding. Can't the wireless gateway simply route the VPN connection to the host?

EDIT3: I'd like to clarify that I'm not trying to run a simple web browsing proxy server on my home PC. I want all the programs on the laptop to be routed to my home PC via the VPN, not just the web browser.

CodeMonkey

Using "Log me in Hamachi" and following " Route all traffic through Hamachi " should achieve what you're after.
