Wifi local connection or just unstable connection

First published here, on Ubuntu 12.04 (actually on Linux) within a week. I only have a problem with my wireless connection at home. In college I can use the wifi without issue, but at home it never connects and stops working locally and/or within 5-10 minutes. I checked from some commands I saw on forums and knew that my wifi card was not hard locked. The driver I am using is the default Linux driver ath9k and my wifi card is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter. Searching for it yielded no results for me.

At home, the wifi is distributed through the router, which I think may be the source of the problem. I have a dual boot computer with Windows 7 and it works fine. So, I know the router is not broken, but probably not the correct router configured for Ubuntu OS.

I even tried installing ndiswrapper to see if the windows drivers would help me, but I couldn't install it (the linux-header could not be found, although they were there...).

Any ideas what could be the problem? I can provide any other information required. Thanks for any help.

Regards, Mihael Souza.

What finally solved the problem was to follow the steps in the virtualxtc link shared by Kassius: Can't reach wi-fi signal on Ubuntu, but can on other OS/devices (ath9k)

greeting,

Mihael Souza.
